SINGAPORE: Police officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle near Compassvale Link during a patrol with the Punggol Coris Neighbourhood Watch Team.

The team alerted officers to a parked vehicle that seemed to be abandoned at a multi-storey carpark on Nov 27 at around 8.30pm.

Sensing something amiss, officers and members from the Neighbourhood Watch Team decided to conduct a check and found that the vehicle was reported to have been stolen.

Investigations are on-going.

Anyone convicted of Theft of Motor Vehicle face a fine and imprisonment for up to seven years.

Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Keok Tong San thanked the Neighbourhood Watch Team for their efforts and sharp observation which led to the recovery.

He also stressed that the continued close collaboration between the police and the community is the key to the continued safety and security of the neighbourhood.

He also advised all vehicle owners to secure their vehciles with anti-theft systems at all times, and also secure their vehicles with additional locking devices such as steering wheel locks, even if the vehicles are left unattended for a short while.
