The police have arrested a suspect who allegedly snatched a woman's handbag.
A woman, 30, had been walking alone along bayfront Avenue at Marina bay when her handbag was snatched by a man.
With the help of two passersby, she tried to detain the man, but he allegedly broke free and ran off with her handbag, which contained $2,400, her smartphone and identity documents.
The crime was reported at around 12.30am on Thursday.
Within 12 hours , the police established the suspect's identity and he was arrested.
The handbag and its contents were retrieved by the police.
The suspect will be charged with snatch theft in court today and faces seven years' jail and caning if found guilty.
