Police nab 30-year-old man suspected of molesting woman in lift

SINGAPORE - Police arrested a 30-year-old man for suspected involvement in a case of outrage of modesty along Tampines Avenue 7.
On October 28, 2013, police received a report of a man who molested a female victim inside a lift of a block before fleeing.
After intensive ground enquiries by officers from the Bedok Police Division, they established the identity of the 30-year-old suspect and arrested him on November 7 in the vicinity of Woodlands Street 82.
Investigations against the suspect are ongoing.
If convicted of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354A(2)(a) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, he faces a jail term of not less than three years and not more than 10 years, and caning.
Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Alvin Moh advised those who encounter similar situations to remain calm, take note of the suspect's physical description, and call the police as soon as it is safe to do so.
Some tips to stay safe:
- To avoid taking a lift with a stranger, let the stranger take the lift and wait for the next one.
- When entering the lift alone, stay close to the lift button panel.
- If a stranger suddenly rushes in as the lift doors are closing, press 'Door Open' and step out immediately.
