SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 43-year-old man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident along Keng Lee Road on Saturday, after tip-offs from two members of the public.

At about 6.50am, police were informed of an accident involving a van and a cyclist along Keng Lee Road, going towards Bukit Timah Road.

The van driver did not stop to render assistance but fled from the accident scene instead.

The cyclist, a 58-year-old Chinese man, sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene at about 7.15am.

Two public-spirited members of the public came forward to provide police with information.

After a four-hour operation, Traffic Police officers managed to locate the van at a carpark in Woodlands and the driver was arrested.

The Traffic Police would like to remind motorists they must stop and render necessary assistance such as calling for an ambulance to attend to the injured party. Failure to do so is a crime.

An offender can be fined up to S$3,000 or jailed up to 12 months while repeat offenders they can be fined up to S$5,000 or jailed up to two years.

Commander of Traffic Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police Cheang Keng Keong, thanked the two individuals for their invaluable tip-offs which helped police to solve the case.
