PM at National Day Rally 2013

It happened nearly half a century ago. Senior Lee, at the prime of his life
then, shed tears in front of the camera after claiming we were “kicked out”. In
the last elections, we saw Lim Boon Heng doing the same, after he tried so hard
to convince sceptics there was no group think in the PAP. Last night, junior Lee
did the same at his NDP 2013 Rally Speech. Whew, what are these guys trying to
show?

PM Lee’s Mad Medisave suggestion -

There many points brought up during last night’s Rally Speech. I will discuss
just one. The mad medisave plan suggested by Lee Junior.

(Straits Times) – NDR
2013: MediShield revamped, will cover all for life

MediShield coverage will no longer stop at 90 and will be expanded to
include even those with pre-existing illnesses, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien
Loong on Sunday as he announced a major revamp of Government insurance
scheme.

In addition to the increased coverage, benefits will be increased so
patients will pay less out-of-pocket.

However, there will no choice to opt-out under the scheme to be named
MediShield Life and premiums will likely be higher.

A medisave plan that will assist you in paying your medical bills beyond the
age of 90. Hey, what the heck for? You think everyone is like your dad hoping to
live up to 100 or what?

It can be argued that at the age of 90, trying to cover yourself from
terminal illnesses is really whacko. It really is trying to stop the inevitable,
which is death, isn’t it? I can understand a young person or even someone in his
60s who is concerned about medical costs. There’s still so much life to live at
that age. I can also empathize those in their 70s or 80s, because you do need
palliative care. If you can’t stop the illness, you need to at least relieve the
pain and reduce the suffering.

But beyond 90? What quality of life can you have even if you live at that
age? Not everyone is like LKY, drawing a very handsome salary at age 90 and has
every selfish reason to live off people’s taxes, you know. I
s not this silly
beyond-age-90-forced-medisave plan draining the finance resources that is going
into the medical care, as well as draining the resources of the healthcare
system as well?

No option to opt out -

The worst part of it all is that you can’t opt out. This is very draconian
indeed. Firstly, you are forcing those who truly wish to opt out to be in. You
are going to force these people who do not wish to have their medisave accounts
be used for this mad plan to be used for this very mad plan they don’t with to
have.

Secondly, to include everyone, even with pre-existing illnesses, will jack up
the cost of the premiums. This is silly because it will again jack up the costs
of medical care even further. Then when that happens and it becomes even more
unaffordable, the govt will get Pinky Loong to shed more tears to convince us
why our medisave plan needs yet another even madder plan to cover the escalating
costs. And the mad cycle of spiraling medical costs will continue.

It all starts with privatizing the healthcare system -

This mad cycle of spiraling medical costs all starts with the privatization
of the healthcare system. We used to have govt hospitals. They have been
restructured so the elites can make big bucks out of the system and pay
themselves handsomely under the guise of GLCs. In fact, this is the cause of the
spiraling effect of all areas. Be it transport, utilities, telecommunications
etc.

My final assessment -

While the PM may have brought up some good points last night, like the need
to make it less stressful in schools, I think some suggestions are really so
whacky it becomes unbelievably silly.
The suggestion to cover everyone under
medishield with no option to opt out, and beyond the age of 90 at that, is
really something to laugh about. Yet, PM Lee had the cheek to show a sombre
face, crying croco tears on national TV just like his dad nearly half a century
ago.

How many times must increase premium? So their idea of managing healthcare in this country is to cover as many illness and as many people at the cost of the policyholders, just keep increasing premiium.

My incomeshield premium this year already increased 50% at no substantial increase in benefit, not enough increase and still want to increase??
