Disagree. It's an inferiority complex masquerading as arrogance and false superiority. All this show of bravado stems from being the 'sick men of Asia'.
To a man the Filipinos are ashamed that almost the entire Philippines economy is supported by the remittance of foreign currency by their countrymen working abroad, the bulk of whom are their women. Domestic workers are their biggest exports. Not to mention the demeaning fact that their doctors are working as nurses and pharmaceutical sales reps abroad, business grads waiting on tables, accountants as bank tellers, engineers as seamen, while guitar-strumming white-collar professional entertain rich clients on cruise ships with cover versions of contemporary pop hits.
It's pathetic.
