Just because they're clowns does not mean they aren't doing a fantastic job leading the country.
LKY was obviously flawed to believe that top money would attract top talent to join pappies. He might have attracted those pappies who see money as the means for personal wealth, not the need to serve the country for the betterment of his fellow citizens.
He motivated a new generation of sinkies who sought public office for personal wealth but to some top talented sinkies, money is not everything, and certainly not the route to true happiness.
There was even one woman MP who lamented that she would resign from pappies if the MP's pay was cut.
If clowns could do a fantastic job leading the country as you reasoned, you have indirectly labelled the PM as the biggest clown of the lot.
I have lived in numerous countries and I have yet to come across a politician who seeks public office so can better the lives of fellow citizens.
They're all in it for themselves.

Well, if you take the pappies for granted, you are saying the world revolves only around the pappies and that they are the only choice for sinkieland to survive. Nobody has been prevented from standing for office in Singapore. The problem is they are even bigger clowns compared to the pappies so nobody votes for them.
Tell the pappies to dismantle the GRC and you will not be surprised if half of the current pappies' minister will exit when voting is conducted on the SMC basis. If pappies are that good, why the need for the GRC?
The GRCs do nothing to change the fact that more than 60% of Singaporeans think that the PAP is the best.
The capture of Aljunied by the WP is proof that as long as an opposition has a stronger team than the PAP, they can win.
If the opposition loses a GRC, it's because the they didn't impress the voting population sufficiently. Nothing to do with the system.
Sinkie land is the only country in the world with the GRC system. If nothing to do with the system to keep the pappies in power, let it be dismantled and see how popular the pappies are to the locals. The imported foreign sinkies are certainly gratified to the pappies for the chance to live and work in a beautiful city, far away from their own miserable country.
That's not true. In NZ, the whole country is one big GRC. The GRC system is taken to the extreme with the party vote deciding the make up of Parliament and a whole bunch of clowns are voted in via this system but are accountable to nobody.
The only wars BG Lee Hsien Loong won were wars against Roy Ngerng and Amos Yee. But these are initial victories. The wars are still ongoing.
