So Md Sirajul Islam Md Hazrat Ali, 32, trumped up one about having been kidnapped by four Indian men to whom a $3,000 ransom had been paid to secure his release.
For having made a false police report with this story, he was yesterday jailed for a week. He pleaded guilty.
A court heard that he had called his employer, Mr Yap Kok Leong, 46, on Sept 28 to lie that he was feeling unwell and would not be going to work.
When he did not turn up for work for three days, Mr Yap reported him missing.
Sirajul kept his cellphone switched off until Oct 4. By then, he had missed six days of work, and learnt that everyone was looking for him.
He told his brother Selim Hazrat Ali, 31, that they should tell his boss that he had been kidnapped.
It was his brother who called Mr Yap to say that Sirajul had been found and a 'ransom' had been paid. It is not known what Sirajul did during those six days.
District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan said Sirajul had committed a very serious offence. 'You cannot do this with impunity,' he said, referring to the false police report.
