Not surprising if those AWOL were foreigners imported as sinaporans to serve NS. Local born and bred sinaporans knew NS no escape, lan lan has to serve, where to run to? To these foreigners, AWOL is the route to get out of the island and balek kampong after getting good education and enjoying amenities in the country until enlistment age.
So, special privileges for those who broke bonds, went on AWOL, to allow them to become special breed above the commoners? The whole SAF guys would go on AWOL if the punishment is only to do social work.
He would not appeal. Likely to serve out his sentence and pack off to emigrate to another country or balek kampong to China. Second option for him would be to stay on in the island, join the oppo parties and kick the pappies' butts.
He might have thought he was a pampered breed because he was a foreigner who came from China. No, he is not real deal, in fact it is unfair advantage for him to be allowed to start Pri 2 at age 10. As long as he is of average intelligence, he will excel when placed in a class of 8 year olds. If he is of above average intelligence, he will surely top the class.
Two to thee years gap (depending on his birthday) is alot in terms of mental and physical development in primary school; and is an unfair advantage that he enjoyed until secondary or even JC level.
