A motorist was killed and eight people injured when a car collided with a double-decker bus in Hong Kong this morning.
Siu Wing-kit, 20, a Water Supplies Department employee, was driving to work in Sham Shui Po from his home in Fanling when the crash took place in Sha Tin at about 7.45am.
Initial investigations showed that Siu’s white Toyota Mark X was negotiating a left bend on the Sha Tin heights section of Tai Po Road, according to acting chief inspector Rayson Chan Wing-fai of the New Territories South traffic unit.
“It crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the bus, ” he said.
The car then spun, and its left-side smashed the into Kowloon Motor Bus vehicle. The Toyota was badly damaged in the collision.
Siu was trapped at the wheel and had lost consciousness by the time firefighters freed him from the wreckage.

The bus driver, 51, and his seven passengers – three men and four women – suffered light injuries, according to police.
The victims were taken to Prince of Wales Hospital, where Siu was declared dead at about 8.30am.
Chan said it was raining at the time of the incident.
“We believe the wet, slippery road surface contributed to the crash,” he said, adding that police were also investigating whether the car was travelling above the 50km/h speed limit and whether there was a mechanical fault.
The scene of the crash was not considered an accident black spot, said police, who ask anyone with information to call 3661 1300.
About 100 metres away from the site, a motorist died in a separate collision between a car and a bus on the same road about 13 months ago.
The Water Supplies Department said the it had expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and would provide them with assistance.
Police figures show 109 people died in 108 fatal traffic accidents in the first 11 months of this year. Ninety-one people died in 90 road accidents in the same period last year.
