Some babies develop slowly, and for that generation in 1950s, particularly the poorer and less educated folks, I don't think they even know the concept of genetic problem. They may think that the first two kids are just a little slow in learning, as not all Down syndrome kids have that very distinctive look. They probably tried for third and forth kids, as was the norm in those days.

Even in today's medical world there is no clear reason why a couple gave birth to Down syndrome kid, and doctors will tell parents that so long as below 40, can still give it a shot for more. Same for autistic and many other genetic issues.

In this Malay couple, the wife was well below 40 when she gave birth, and they too care of their disabled kids on their own. Look at the case properly before passing judgment.

If sinkies can't even see the merit of this Malay couple, then they deserve the government of the day.
