An Iranian actress has been banned from returning to her country after a nude photo of her appeared in a French Magazine.
Golshifteh Farahani appeared alongside Leonardo di Caprio in the movie Body of Lies.
The young actress, who lives in Paris, posed for the Madame Le Figaro magazine as a protest against the violations of women’s rights in Iran, The Daily Telegraph reports.
Now the Iranian government has made Farahani persona non grata. The actress received a letter signed by Iranian officials advising her not to travel back to Iran.
The actress published the photographs on her Facebook page. This caused an immediate reaction from Iran and the Middle East, some accused her of indecency while others praised her courage for taking a stand.
The publication of Farahani’s nude photograph coincided with the Iranian film The Separation winning the Golden Globe for best foreign film. In reply the Iranian government closed the House of Cinema Institute in Tehran.
