Industry-led coalitions have been formed in seven key growth areas such as robotics and environmental sustainability, to devise ideas for projects and generate new jobs, said Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat on Saturday (June 20).

This is quite horrid. Based on the ST article, t he so called new jobs created are as follows:

These include 40,000 jobs in both the private and public sectors, 25,000 traineeships and 30,000 skills training opportunities.

Those seeking jobs can search the #sgunitedjobs hashtag on the MyCareersFuture.sg portal. There are more than 2,200 available jobs spanning industries such as accounting, healthcare and engineering.

Last week someone from WSG (think it's a stat board under MOM) came to our company and tried to sell the 25,000 traineeships. They claim it's very cheap to hire them as WSG will handle everything including hiring these trainees and then subcontract out to us and we only need to pay 20% of their salary. No need to provide benefits like medical, insurance or leave.

Out of curiosity, I asked them how much are the salary of these trainees to see whether I have budget to hire them. My goodness, the government is really treating them as sweatshop laborers! The officer claim most companies are offering traineeship to degree grads at around $2.2k, diploma $1.6k and ITE $1.3k and we only need to pay 20% of that amount. So she told us after government subsidy is even cheaper than getting those school holiday interns.

It is certainly cheap, but at the same time I cannot help but wonder what has happened to us that we need to treat our tertiary grads this way with this sort of menial wages in a program led by the government. I mean a degree grad with only $2.2k, no benefits and long working hours without OT, what's the point? Might as well become a PHV driver. The diploma/ITE pay even more ridiculous, they can make double that just doing food deliveries.

That PAP's response to covid-19 has been world class. We've contained the pandemic with minimal deaths while elsewhere, thousands of civilians have perished from covid. The world is now going into a recesssion but the PAP has bucked the trend and created 100,000 jobs for sinkies, locals and foreign talent. Where else can you find a good government like that?

Well the grads get who they vote for dont they? I am looking for casual home bakers for adhoc jobs (me providing raw materials foc) and without a reply so far so I think sgreans in general are doing well...think of it this way if every grad has a salary commensurate to their education who is going to buy the btos in tengah and slumggol to have their sex in small places?

How if people keep voting them in?
PAP responded by bringing in more FT, in the name of benefitting Singapore's economy. But of course your my salary will be affected adversely. Cost of living will go up because demand for goods and services will go up. That's inflation.
