Need URGENT advise - Maid issue

Poor Sinkies.....when maid says the mum is dying, they refuse to believe the maid. But then when there is no trust, why allow that stranger into your own home in the first place?

The home is a sanctuary, refuge, safety. Refuse to trust the maid but demands she cooks for you, make your drink, care for your family?

Something is definitely wrong with these people. I can only surmise that they are KIASU, KIASI. Cursed to be forever distrustful. Eternally fearful of being cheated. They will get there eventually.

Hi Loofy, what you are saying is a little naive. It is not about Singapoeans being distrustful, but an issue of "once bitten twice shy". I've gotten lied to by maids i trusted and i also had money stolen by maids trusted. Of course i have had good ones, but they are rare.

A little piece of info for you and this was told to me by one of my maid when her contract ended. She said that many agencies would call my house in the afternoon offering to find new house for her and promise her the sky. These agencies got her number from other maids. So, you will never know if a maid really has someone dying or just finding an excuse.

I personally find that there is nothing wrong being careful and not take everyone's word immediately. It is good to do some verifications before deciding. If you think Singaporeans are a distrustful lot, you aparantly have not dealt with our other neighbours.

That's what my friend thought so too. But he is also worried that he may get the maid into trouble with her employer if he approaches and advise her employer.

If it is a responsible agency, they will check for you. They can call the training school in the home country, which will in turn contact the recruiter in the region. From there, it is quite easy to check on their end. Just take couple of days. But if your friend is not the employer, then i don't think the agency will entertain him.

By the way, how did your friend know about this incident? He heard it from the maid? If the employer is really so heartless, then you friend should report it. The first place that coms to my mind would be their embassies.

I am not being insensitive, but this is a common excuse used by maids. And the next thing you would be finding out that the maid has gone to another house. The best way forward is to ask the agency to check into the village.

As for air tickets, the employer is responsible for the tickets after the contract has ended. Anytime before that is on the maid's account.

Further to your comment on taking it as unpaid leave, just remember that the maid may not return once she has her passport and if it is just an excuse. Who the will sympathise with the employer who has to fork out another couple of thousands to get another? Of course if this case is genuine, then the employe should yield.

All employer/company are not allow to to hold/keep any employee passport as in law. The maid can make police report.

Obviously you are very wrong. Just look at the PAP gahment budget. Old people, sick people, poor people are helped generously by the gahment. Ordinary workers will have free public buses given to the private bus companies. Even retards who inhabit this forum also got a helping hand from the gahment! Animals like cats, dogs and hamsters are also been helped.

The story was it had been a few weeks leow, no sound from the agency according to the maid. My friend said the maid also the very timid type.

I guess so far the advice from forummers here is either embassy or MOM, if employer or maid agency NSNP:(
