SINGAPORE: The 34-year-old driver involved in the fatal crash that took place on the Central Expressway (CTE) in the early hours of National Day last Friday has been released on police bail.

His driving licence has also been suspended.

The accident left four people dead.

23-year-old Singaporean Amron Ayoub had been driving his Korean girlfriend, Ms Jamie Song Jisoo, and her family to the airport.

They were travelling in Mr Amron's family car on the CTE in the direction of Seletar Expressway when a tyre burst.

Mr Amron pulled up at a chevron area near the Yio Chu Kang exit to fix the tyre, and all of them got out of the vehicle.

Mr Amron, Ms Song and her parents were apparently standing behind the car when another car hit them.

Only Ms Song's brother was unhurt.

The other driver was arrested for dangerous driving, causing death.

Channel NewsAsia understands that even though he is currently out on bail, he can still be charged at a later date.

The above is the latest report on the horrific CTE accident.

Read it carefully. The identities of all the victims have all been released. By now we know the tragic love story of former poly student and his girlfriend who is Korean. We even know the ages of all the victims and nationalities. Even the passenger who escape death we know is a Korean golfer based in China. However until now the driver's identity has been guarded and the.mainstream media refuses to release it. They should just release this information ad not hide it..what purpose does it serve to not tell us? Et the facts surrounding this be know so that we can try to avoid such tragedies in future. How does keeping these facts under wraps help to foster confidence?

Why are Singaporeans interested? It is not for negative reasons of targeting foreigners for blame for such accidents but because of reasons of safety of our roads for all.

See, after the Ma Chi Ferrari accident, many Singaporeans ask the govt to look into the licensing of foreign drivers. As we know the Singapore driving test is very thorough and test all skills set and safety awareness of drivers. Many countries require retesting of drivers from certain countries because it is a known fact that license can be purchased or the tester can be bribed in these countries.

For safety reasons and to prevent the loss of lives on our streets, we would like driving standards to be ensured just like Singapore drivers who have to take local driving test...and our driving test are of certain standards and rigor to ensure fewer lives are lost on our streets.

So far tracking the statistics of severe accidents including those that involve public buses, the trend shows a disproportionate number of accidents involving drivers with foreign licenses. it is not a question of just nationality alone because accidents can be caused by a Singaporean to obtained a license from a foreign country where driving licenses are easily obtained which is another possible gap

If there is gap here in the issuance of license, it is important to fix it before more tragedies occur on our streets. This is not a pro or anti foreigner issue but a safety issue. There is talk that the govt does not want to retest these drivers because it will deter foreigners with money to buy cars from settling here ...concern is the safsty and lifes of singaporeans are traded off.

Killed 4 innocent people by his reckless driving act and yet can still be released on bail. Our jurisdiction system is seriously flawed. Have money can talk indeed in Sinkie Land.

In a nutshell, it is a bailable offence.

For some cases, bail will not be given until police completes their investigation. IOs will get court to remand the accused persons.

In major cases, especially those involving the death penalty (drug trafficking, murder, kidnapping), no bail.

I think bail.is not an.issue ...since it.is a bailable offense. The father of the young man also step forward to say he is willing to forgive.
punishment of the driver leave it to the courts to do the right thing.
...wait for judgement then see outxome.

my main problem is the non disclosure of important facts that that is needed for the public to be aware of road safety isaues to have a say in way things should be improved for.everyones safety.

The identity of the driver is reported in Malaysian newspaper. Their report has more details than ours.

Commander Traffic Police and his officers may have to clear with higher-ups on certain matters like identity of driver given recent events whereby FT were drivers of such vehicles. It may surprise you but such cases are considered 'sensitive' at ministry level. They fail to realise that the more they hide, the more the public wants the truth.

Advocacy journalism – writing to advocate particular viewpoints or influence the opinions of the audience.
Investigative journalism – writing which seeks to add extra information to explain, or better describe the people and events of a particular topic.

Guess it is a mixture of the 2 .... half-truth journalism?

Wait till one day when your family members suffer the same fate, then you'll really know what "Relack" really means.

I don't mean to curse your family, but what happens if that fucker tries to leave the country illegally, especially if he's a foreigner. He now knows that he's in a deep shit and naturally he'll try to escape conviction by all means. Call INTERPOL ah?

Until today, that Romanian Embassador case is still not completed.

What difference does the nationality of one driver make? Overall statistics are a far better tool for targeted road safety improvements.
