After weeks of tit for tat military posturing by both North Korea on the one side and South Korea and e United States on another, it seems that it was the Skorea and the US who blinked first in a game of brinksmanship.
After a series of public display of US military might of B-52 bombers, F-22 stealth fighters, month long miliary exercises and strong Skorean threat of all out reprisal in response to the ever bellicost and belligerent military provocations by the North Koreans, there was a genuine softening of first, the US position and now the South Koreans who now asked the North for a negotiation. As the world casually dismissed and laughed off the North's antiquated military and its crazy leader and its policies , it seems that the North has managed to win against its foes again this time.
The ball is now on the North Korean side. The US has stopped its display of military might and even put off a continental missile tests in order not to provoke a North response and South Korea now seems to initiate talks to solve Kaesong and overall inter-korean tension. It should stop its fiery rhetorics and cancelled its missile tests in order to cool the tension down. It is not to the her advantage to continue raising tension when the US has already admitted that her initial display of military might emboldened Pyongyang rather than intimidated her. The US has to accept Pyongyang as a nuclear military power and any conflict in the future will not only destroy both Koreas but even the US as well.
Kaesong is a symbol of inter-korean ties of one Korean race, separated as a result of historical reasons. The North closure of Kaesong indicated the breakdown of the last symbol of inter-korean cooperation. It also affected very badly South Korean businesses in the industrial zone and Seoul's overall economic climate.
