MRT stations and lines are only for increasing the property prices in the surrounding areas. It is like some 'area-of-effect buff' to make their real estate cronies happy.

They don't care if the trains break down... as long as their real estate cronies can build a new mall or condo nearby (advertised as 'X minutes walk to MRT station!'), all is good.

The PAP govt would rather spend money upgrading HDB estates... sounds fantastic, until you realise that:

1) The residents have to pay out of their own pockets too e.g. for lift upgrading.
2) The rent of small businesses in the neighbourhood always gets increased after the estate upgrading.
3) It has a specific political purpose: to buy votes.

Give you one dollar, take back two dollars. Rent-seeking, extractive, manipulative. Who did you vote for?

Yes MRT is just a tool for increasing land prices, remember the old days when they always justified building stations with the number of population surrounding the stations? not enough people, they won't build, now they just build all over the place to increase land prices and develop properties.
