Mother accused of forcing daughter into prostitution

A woman who forced her 12-year-old daughter to sell sex and introduced her to pimps was charged with assisting prostitution by Minhang District prosecutors.

The 34-year-old woman, surnamed Gou, a migrant from Guizhou Province, came to Shanghai in 2002 and brought her daughter to the city in 2008. After divorcing her husband in Guizhou, Gou began to live with a boyfriend in 2012 and tried to make her daughter sell sex and earn money for the family.

She introduced the girl to some pimps, lying that she was 16 years old.

In April this year, a man paid Gou 130 yuan (US$21.3) to have sex with her daughter. They were caught in the house by police in a raid.

The girl told police that she was forced to provide sex three or four times last year.
