緬甸仰光附近海域最近出現一艘老舊貨輪，海軍登船檢查發現上面沒有水手也沒有貨物，整艘船表面也都生鏽斑駁，深入調查還發現這艘船最後被記錄到的時間是2009年，地點就在台灣附近海域，消失9年的「幽靈船」突然冒出，引發諸多聯想。

電影裡古老破舊的船隻，成了打撈團隊尋寶發財的希望，緬甸仰光附近海域也突然出現一艘老舊貨櫃船。
這艘大型貨輪表面油漆斑駁多處生鏽，海軍人員上船查看，發現整艘船空蕩蕩，沒有貨物沒有水手，根本是艘幽靈船，而且詭異的是這艘船最後一次出現紀錄是2009年出現在台灣附近海域。

2009年6月3號下午3點11分，這艘貨輪曾被標記出現在台南外海，之後就沒了音訊，現在消失9年的幽靈貨輪，無人操作卻突然現蹤。
網路新聞報導：「這艘船建於2001年，長度超過177公尺，仰光警方表示，這艘船在沙灘擱淺，上面有印尼旗幟」。
印尼官員表示，貨輪早已轉賣新加坡公司，被拖往孟加拉的拆船廠，但奇怪的是現場沒看到拖船，只有這艘貨輪獨自漂流大海。
