The Philadelphia Union ended their lean scoring period with a 3-1 win over the Houston Dynamo to keep their slim MLS playoff hopes alive.

Union went into Sunday's match having only scored two goals in five matches but Freddy Adu put them in front in the 28th minute, taking advantage of a mix-up in Dynamo's defence to slot home from close range.

The score was 1-1 at half-time, however, after Oscar Boniek Garcia thumped his shot in off the far post two minutes before the break.

Philadelphia went in front again...after Dynamo's Andre Hainault fouled the home side's Sheanon Williams in the penalty area.

Adu made no mistake from the spot and Union led 2-1, wrapping up the win in the 70th minute when Josue Martinez tapped the ball home from a corner.

In Vancouver, the Colorado Rapids scored an 86th-minute equaliser to steal a 2-2 draw with the Whitecaps.

Colorado led 1-0 in the 34th minute when Omar Cummings smashed the ball home after Martin Rivero's shot came back off the post but two second-half goals saw Vancouver lead.

Alain Rochat equalised for the Whitecaps with a clever finish from Gershon Koffie's cross in the 64th minute and four minutes later substitute Kenny Miller got in behind Colorado's defence to put Vancouver in front.

But with full-time looming, a mix-up between Rochat and Lee Young-Pyo allowed the Rapids' Jamie Smith to dribble into the penalty area and crack his shot into the top corner to salvage a draw.

In the other MLS match, Branko Boskovic scored as DC United defeated Chivas USA 1-0.
