.....No one expected the Serbian leader to be handed over.
Milosevic was handed over to the Dutch court because he had lost the Yugoslav War, and not because the Serb kids want to visit Disneyland.
Milosevic was brought to power as he promised the Serbs the return of the Greater Serbia glory and he started the Yugoslav War to fulfill that vision. But he lost every single war and Serbia became smaller and the Serbs became more humiliated. The sight of seeing their fellow Serbs being expelled from their homeland in Croatia, Bosnia and even Kosovo had filled every single Serbs with sadness, shame and anger.
Milosevic had made a promise, started a war but failed to deliver. He lost the support of the Serbs, ejected from office in election and subsequently handed over to the Dutch court. The Serbs handed him over not because he had commited the war crimes but because he had lost the war and brought so much shame and suffering to the people.
If Milosevic had been victorious in the Yugoslav War, he would be hailed as a national hero and even be crowned as the Father of modern Serbia. No Serb would allow Miloseovic and fellow national heroes like Karadzic and Mladic hero to be judged and punished in the Dutch court.
Likewise, Putin should learn from the painful lesson of Milosevic.......He could also end up in the Dutch court if he were to lose the war in Ukraine.
Like Milosevic, Putin manages to enjoy widespread support among the people, winning landslide elctions again and again as he promises to restore the former glory of their Russian Motherland. Russians are a very proud people with a very proud history, continously expanding their empire to defeat all enemies and to become the largest empire in the world. In fact, Russian leaders who lost foreign war or suffered foregin setbacks ultimately lost the support of the people (Tsar lost half of Europe to Germans in WWI, communists lost Afghanistan, Gorbachev lost Baltic states, Yeltin setback on Chechnya war and lost huge chunk of Russian empire)..... Putin manages to stop the slide and returns Russia to its former glory and thus his enormous support among the people.
But Putin was able to achieve his goals because of the price hikes in natural resources which Russia is exporting and dominating. This allow Russia to enjoy huge financial gains and political clout. He may not be able to have his success when the cycle ends.
Like the Serbs had turned against Milosevic , the Russian people will turn against Putin if he cannot deliver his promise of returning Russia to its former glory....... And the war in Ukraine is beginning to turn against him:

Perhaps, this is the first time in history when Russians are being expelled from their homeland. Throughout history, we have seen how victorious Russians annexing land and expelling other people. Now the table seems to be turning around. Any Russian who reads the story and sees the pictures would be very sad and very angry. Putin has to do something to stop the tide or he would be joining Karadzic and Mladic in the Hague.
Maybe, this is the reason why the rebels or Russian troops, in a state of panic, fired the missiles at MH17 which crashed just next to the town Snizhne, where the Ukrainian jets just bombed the city mere 2,3 days ago......Putin cannot allow another Ukrainian jet to bomb any pro-Russian city and thus striking fear and panic among the Russians. He had to escalate the war in Ukraine to avoid being sent to the Hague. Similarly, just like what they did to Milosevic by supporting Croatia/Bosnia/Kosovo, US also has to increase their support to Ukraine and thus escalating the war if they were to stop Putin from interfering in US domination in world affair.
