Thanks for your reply. But it seems the verses I have mentioned above do not really point to a defensive posture. It teaches an all out slaughter of Jews and Christians until no other religion is left except Islam. Those verses seem to be the main guiding principles that have caught hold of more and more muslims today, not those that teaches compassion, kindness and peaceful existence which you referred to.

You will find similar lines in the Bible, as well as the Jewish Torah and Talmud, all from the past. Some of what is written no longer apply in this present day and age but there will always be literalists (Muslims, Christians, Jews including atheists) who will subscribe or selectively quote such lines when it suits them to do so.

For example, I can quotes tonnes of lines from the Jewish Torah and Talmud which Christians will find completely unacceptable in this day and age.
