God was definitely on the side of an Ohio bus driver who was shot at by a gang of thugs.

Rickey Wagoner had stopped by the side of the road as his bus had an electrical problem when three men approached him, the New York Daily News reported.

They shot at Wagoner three times, with one hitting him in the leg. What happened next was nothing short of a miracle.

"The two bullets were stopped by the New Testament book in his chest pocket,"Sgt. Michael Pauley told the Dayton Daily News. "There was obviously some kind of intervention involved in this incident, because he probably should not be here."

Wagoner managed to fight back, wresting the gun out of one of the men's hands and firing back as the suspects fled.

This was despite being shot in the chest, and stabbed by one of the attackers in the arm. Wagoner used a pen from his pocket to stab one of the men in the leg and grab the gun off him.

The 49-year-old believed he was the victim of a gang hit that was part of an initiation ritual.

"Amazingly, his injuries are not life threatening," Pauley told the newspaper. "He basically said he fought for his life."
