While business in general may be languishing because of the recession, the world of football seems to remain resilient, with those at the top keeping hold of their cash.
Manchester city owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan is top of the rich list
But there have been one or two changes in the FourFourTwo.com Football Rich List as the 40-year-old owner of Manchester City comes out top in the wealth league. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan moves up from last year's number two spot with a fortune of £20bn and displacing QPR’s Lakshmi Mittal, who is worth £17bn.
David Beckham's fortune has fallen - but it's still high
Other highlights include a further drop for Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich who lies in fourth position with a slightly reduced fortune of £7.4bn. Last year he was in third place with £7.8bn. While David Beckham still leads the richest players list, his fortune has slipped from £125m to £100m and he drops 10 places from 38th to number 48th in the overall rich list.
Wayne and Coleen Rooney - private life rumours have had an effect
Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney's well-publicised problems are hitting him in the pocket. His wealth is estimated at £25m, down from last year's £37m, putting him below Rio Ferdinand, Sol Campbell and Ryan Giggs in the players' list. From the managers' side, the England manager Fabio Capello comes up trumps with a £36m fortune, up from £30m last year. In second place is 39-year-old Roy Keane, with a fortune of £28m, just pipping Sir Alex Ferguson's fortune of £26m.
