Man jailed for role in group assault

An unemployed man was yesterday jailed for 12 months for helping a friend beat up his sister's former boyfriend and forcing him to perform a sex act in public.
A court heard yesterday that Nur Fazli Moha Ghazali, 28, was part of a group that attacked Mr Khairul Nizam Misran, 24, in September last year.
Mr Khairul was previously in a relationship with the younger sister of Nur Fazli's friend, Zulkirman Hassim Abdullah, 21.
Unhappy about the relationship, Zulkirman arranged for Nur Fazli and another friend, Shahrul Samsudin, 21, to confront Mr Khairul on Sept 24.
The group met in Jurong West and were told by friends that Mr Khairul was at a pavilion behind Block 360, Corporation Drive.
The group went there at about 2am.
Zulkirman said that when they saw Mr Khairul, he was unhappy that Mr Khairul had had sexual relations with his sister and he punched him twice on the face and arm.
Shahrul and Nur Fazli then punched and kicked Mr Khairul's body.
Zulkirman also slapped Mr Khairul's left cheek.
Forced to 'choose'
He then made Mr Khairul choose between being beaten up or stripping naked. Mr Khairul chose to strip.
To further humiliate him, Zulkirman forced him to masturbate before allowing him to get dressed.
After he was dressed, the trio took turns punching him again.
When his attackers left, Mr Khairul went to a nearby bus stop for help, where a man named Mr Mohd Salleh called the police at about 5.15am.
Mr Khairul went to the National University Hospital, where it was discovered that his left cheekbone was fractured and a part of his face was swollen.
Court documents show that there had also been a confrontation a week earlier, on Sept 19, 2014.
Nur Fazli, along with Zulkirman, Shahrul and another man, Fahmi Zakaria, 26, had assaulted Mr Khairul at about 7.30pm at a pathway near Block 419, Jurong West Street 42.
Nur Fazli had also made off with Mr Khairul's mobile phone.
The two incidents on Sept 19 were taken into consideration during sentencing.
