Man jailed for cheating RWS
By Elena Chong
AN UNDISCHARGED bankrupt who used a taxi driver's driving licence to get into Resorts World Sentosa casino was jailed for six months on Wednesday. Ong Phee Tian, 42, had been notified by the National Council on Problem Gambling of his automatic exclusion from entering any casino since last December.
The relief taxi driver admitted to posing as cabby Peh Eng Lee, 38, to cheat the casino into allowing him in without paying the entry levy of $100 at about 1.20pm on June 30. Ong is the relief driver of Mr Peh's taxi. Mr Peh has paid a one-year membership with RWS casino.
The court heard that Ong was stopped by a security officer at the basement carpark of the casino at about 5pm and asked for his particulars. He handed over his identity card to the officer, who scanned it and realised that he was banned from entering the casino. Ong could have been jailed for up to five years and/or fined for cheating by personation.
