Man jailed 13 years for housebreaking, theft offences

SINGAPORE: A renovation sales representative has been sentenced to 13 years' jail and ordered to be given eight strokes of the cane for a series of housebreaking and theft offences.
William Fong, 42, admitted to seven counts of burglary and three theft charges between July and October 2012.
The amount stolen came up to about $68,800.
In all, he faced 24 charges but the prosecution proceeded on 10 charges only.
Fong, a repeat offender, was already out on bail for the first nine charges when he continued to commit the other 15 offences.
Court documents showed that Fong targeted mainly diners and restaurants in various locations, including Marina Gardens and NEX shopping centre in Serangoon Central.
