The 40-year-old construction manager admitted to causing hurt to his only child by pressing the iron on his left forearm at his flat in Hougang on Aug 6 last year.
Another similar charge for hurting him in the left leg the same day was taken into consideration. A Community Court heard that the accused saw his son playing with the heated iron in the bedroom and scolded him. He took the iron from the boy who then hid underneath a blanket.
The accused then used the heated iron and pressed against the blanket to hurt the victim, whose medical report stated that he had multiple small scars on his left forearm. Pleading for leniency, the man told the court that he knew that what he did was wrong. He could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000.
