A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to 22 years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane for raping his half-sister who has a low IQ.

The High Court had found him guilty of raping the teenage girl - with whom he shares a mother - over two nights in March 2010, when she was staying in his one-room flat.

Both cannot be named to avoid identifying the victim, who was 18 years old at the time.

The man, a car polisher, had pleaded guilty last year to raping and sodomising her. But in February, he withdrew his plea, maintaining his innocence and claiming that he had admitted to the charges only to "save his wife".

He claimed his brother had framed him over money.

The police had lied, he said, as had a psychiatrist who interviewed him.

After his sentence - 22 years' jail and 24 strokes of the cane - was read out yesterday, he turned to his lawyer and shouted: "What are you doing?"

From March 12 to 14, 2010, the man had raped and sexually assaulted his half-sister, who has an IQ of 58. He also forced her to watch him have sex with his wife, and engaged in a threesome with both women.
