She was in her shop when she noticed about 20 people surrounding the playground outside.
Curious, the 49-year-old shop assistant, who wanted to be known only as Ms Lin, went to take a look, thinking a quarrel had occurred.
She told The New Paper yesterday in Mandarin: "I saw a man bleeding from his abdomen and a woman was standing next to him.
"Another man, who I presumed was the woman's husband, was holding something wrapped in newspaper.
"He shouted to the woman, 'You already have two children and you're still like that'."
The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon at Block 677, Woodlands Avenue 6.
Ms Lin added: "The husband shouted at the woman for about 20 minutes while the woman was supporting the other man.
"They spoke in Mandarin and from the sound of it, they seemed to be from China."
OUT OF HAND
According to Ms Lin, a man in his 40s came forward to help the woman as she tried to support the victim while walking to the void deck of Block 677.
She said: "Her husband followed behind and threw the newspaper he was holding on the ground. I saw the handle of a small knife sticking out from the newspaper.
"The victim sat on a bench and his abdomen and left arm were bleeding profusely. Blood kept trickling onto the bench and his face was drained of colour.
"I thought he was going to die because he was bleeding so much and the husband just continued scolding his wife."
Chinese newspaper Lianhe Wanbao reported an unnamed witness as saying the slashing occurred at a badminton court next to Block 677.
According to the witness, a woman and a man were chatting at the void deck of the when another man, believed to be the woman's husband, approached the couple to confront them.
Sensing that things were getting out of hand, the man tried to leave but the other man chased him.
The men ran round the badminton court and when the attacker caught up, he stabbed the man in the stomach with a "lethal weapon", the witness said.
The victim pressed his abdominal area and fell to the ground, but the assailant continued attacking him.
The victim raised his left arm in an attempt to block the blows but sustained more injuries.
Lianhe Wanbao also quoted another witness as saying that the woman rushed forward to hug the attacker in an attempt to prevent further violence when she saw victim bleeding.
A Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman said a man was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for stab wounds to his chest and abdomen.
The police said they received a call at 4.42pm and established that a case of voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous means had occurred.
A 31-year-old man was taken conscious to hospital and a 40-year-old man was arrested in relation to the case.
Investigations are ongoing.
