SINGAPORE: A 54-year-old man has been charged with cheating a woman of S$600 by telling her that he was a doctor from the cardiology department at the Singapore General Hospital.

Leong Yew Thong is believed to have told Bernadine Tok Hong Kee on November 19 last year that the money was needed to pay another hospital.

He allegedly promised to return the money the next day.

The pre-trial conference for this case will be held on November 11.

If convicted, Leong could be jailed up to 10 years and fined.

A MAN was charged in court on Thursday with cheating a woman of $600. Leong Yew Thong, 54, allegedly posed as a doctor from Singapore General Hospital and told Ms Bernadine Tok Hong Kee that he needed money to pay Tan Tock Seng Hospital and promised to return the money to her the next day. He is said to have induced Ms Tok to transfer $600 to an OCBC Bank account on Nov 19 last year. Leong, represented by Mr S.K. Kumar, is out on bail. His case was adjourned for a pre-trial conference to be held on Nov 11. If convicted he can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
