Man arrested for stealing gold chains worth over S$16,000

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a man who stole more than S$16,000 worth of gold chains from jewellery shops in Serangoon Road. The 20-year-old suspect allegedly committed the crimes on Wednesday and Saturday.
Police said it received a report on Wednesday evening that a man had entered a jewellery shop and stole necklaces worth S$7,040 before running away.
On Saturday afternoon, police received a similar report from another jewellery shop located along Serangoon Road that a man had stolen four gold chains worth S$8,978.
Police identified the suspect with the help of CCTV cameras mounted in the area, and arrested him at Siloso Road on Sentosa island at 12.30am on Sunday.
The suspect will be charged in court on Monday. If convicted, he could be sentenced to seven years' jail, fined, or both. - CNA/ac
