SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 22-year-old Chinese man for suspected involvement in housebreaking and theft at a residential block along Woodlands Ave 6.

At 8pm on Dec 7, the house occupant returned home to find the living room window grille dislodged from the rail. The unit was ransacked and valuables amounting to $4,000 were stolen.

After ground enquiries and investigations, the identity and whereabouts of the suspect was established. He was eventually arrested at his residence in Woodlands Circle on Jan 9 at midnight.

The suspect will be charged in court on Jan 10 and could face up to 10 years imprisonment if found guilty.

Police advises homeowners to adopt the following crime prevention measures to prevent break-ins into their homes:

- Make sure that your main doors and windows are properly secured with strong grilles and good quality locks;

- Do not leave large amounts of cash in your home. All cash, jewelleries and valuable items should be kept in a bank or in a good quality safe that is anchored to the wall/floor to prevent the safe from being carted away; &

- Consider installing a burglar alarm system.
