Man arrested for dangerous driving after speeding through traffic police road block

SINGAPORE - A 35-year-old man was arrested after driving dangerously along Lorong 14 Geylang on Tuesday night (April 21).
Police said in a statement on Wednesday that incident began about 11.50pm.
The man drove towards a traffic police road block along Lorong 14 Geylang in the direction of Guillemard Road in a slow but unsteady manner. Instead of stopping when officers stopped his car to conduct checks, the man surged forward in his car and sped through the road block.
Police officers immediately gave chase.
The driver abandoned his car midway through the pursuit along Lorong 34 Geylang and fled on foot. He was arrested after a short chase.
Police have also initiated investigations against the driver for failing to stop when ordered by a police office, driving while under disqualification, using a car without insurance coverage and driving the car without the owner's consent.
Drivers caught for dangerous driving will lose their licences when convicted. First-time offenders may also face a fine of up to $3,000, or a jail term of up to 12 months, or both.
Repeat offenders face a fine of up to $5,000, or jail term of up to 2 years, or both.
