Man allegedly involved in series of rental scams arrested
SINGAPORE: A 31-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a series of rental scams has been arrested.
The man is alleged to be involved in at least nine cases of cheating which were reported between July 1 and 10 this year.
After collecting deposits and rental amounting to almost S$15,000 for a unit in Serangoon North Avenue 1, the man ceased contact with his victims.
The suspect was arrested in Bedok North Street 3 on Tuesday.
He will be charged in court on Thursday.
If found guilty, he could be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
Police have advised potential tenants to request for documentary proof of flat ownership that bears the flat owner's name and an approval letter from the Housing and Development Board (HDB), before handing over rent or deposits. - CNA/ms
