Man jailed for casino theft
By Elena Chong
FOUR-AND-A-HALF months after picking the pocket of a patron at Marina Bay Sands, a stall assistant returned to the casino and did it again. On Tuesday, Yong Tat Kheong, 43, a Malaysian, was jailed for two months for theft. He admitted stealing from Mr Tan Tee Tee, 50, a hairstylist, who was gambling at a roulette table on May 1. The victim discovered $500 missing from his rear pocket and reported to the management.
On Sunday, a surveillance operator monitoring the CCTV cameras was on duty when she saw Yong, who fitted the description given from an incident file system. She informed the security and Yong was detained. The CCTV footage showed him taking a stack of money from the victim's left rear pocket. Yong could have been jailed for up to three years and/or fined.
