Malaysia : Don't Worry. Ringgit will bounce back. Lol

KUALA LUMPUR: Worries from the international investor community are among the temporary factors contributing to the depreciation of the ringgit at the moment, said Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

He said this caused investors to reallocate investments in higher yielding assets in the United States and caused the depreciation of various world currencies, including the ringgit.

He said China’s growth prospects, which were expected to be weaker this year due to movement restrictions in major cities, had weakened the yuan and had an impact on the ringgit.

"This is because the Malaysia-China trade volume is large, with Malaysia’s exports to China representing 10.7 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) (compared to Indonesia: 2.1 per cent and Thailand: 1.3 per cent),” he said in the 97th Laporan Kewangan Rakyat (LKR) published today.

In addition, he said the volatile situation of global geopolitical tensions also put pressure on economies around the world.

Tengku Zafrul stressed that the factor was seen as temporary and the value of the ringgit was expected to remain stable and continue to strengthen.

"The ringgit is actively managed by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) to ensure that ringgit fluctuations are controlled and not excessive so that the economic sector can make investment and expenditure plans based on a more stable ringgit value.

"Actually, what is more important is the strong fundamentals in our economy, such as the country's economic growth prospects that remain strong,” he said.

He added that the expansion of the Malaysian economy by 3.6 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2021 and 5.0 per cent in the first quarter of 2022 will continue to help strengthen the ringgit.

"This is also reflected in the latest analysis by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which projects Malaysia’s GDP growth at 5.75 per cent for 2022, driven by pent-up domestic demand and continued strong external demand,” he said.

Tengku Zafrul said the Finance Ministry was confident of the country’s strong economic growth prospects which was expected to grow between 5.3 and 6.3 per cent in 2022, thus contributing to the stability of the ringgit.

Meanwhile, Tengku Zafrul said the Finance Ministry was conducting a Budget 2022 survey to obtain feedback on initiatives that had been launched throughout the year

"The survey for Budget 2022 is open to the public from May 31 to June 17, 2022 and any feedback can be given at https://budget.mof.gov.my/manfaat/,” he said.

In the meantime, he said Budget 2023 would focus on promoting policies that focused on environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, based on more sustainable and inclusive economic development.

He said the emphasis on the net zero carbon target would have a strong positive impact on investment, and was expected to generate up to RM60 billion in GDP a year and 300,000 jobs.

"Tax incentives will continue to be reviewed to reward the use of ESG-focused technology and business operations in the next budget. For this year, the government has provided tax incentives for electric vehicles.

"Through Budget 2023, the scope of this incentive is likely to be expanded to other products and technologies that produce less GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions,” he added. - Bernama

Haha… with the stupidity of the Mudlaysia politicians?

chicken export ban already demonstrated that its still silly politics as usual. Price control will mean chicken suppliers will cut the supply off, which leads to a spike in other food as well.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 — Former Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak told the coalition at its 48th anniversary celebration today that he was not accused of stealing in his corruption trials but of laundering funds he did not personally enjoy.

He claimed political persecution in his ongoing trials related to 1MDB and said he has offered to debate his political rivals to profess his innocence.

“Meanwhile we have political appointees in government agencies and ex-judges turning prosecutors against me, so I ask where’s the fairness here?” he said in apparent reference to Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram, the lead prosecutor whom he has tried repeatedly to disqualify from his cases without success.
“Ladies and gentlemen, just so you know, I am not accused of stealing any money. Rather under AMLA (Anti-Money Laundering Act) I have used money not for myself,” Najib said during his speech at the World Trade Centre here today.

If only Najib is still in control today, the rate should at least be better at about S$1 = RM2.80.

Nope.
Najib and badawi had their window to improve strength of RM but they let it pass.
In najib's case, after 2009 when he came in, till 2014, it was RM3 to usd1. He could have pushed it to RM2.5, its historical rate before 1997 crisis if both had removed fuel and other form of subsidies.

I agree that subsidies do contribute to the weakness of the Ringgit. But I still believe that Najib could have managed the economy better than those that are in power today.

In their opening statement, prosecutors said they will adduce evidence to show that Hasanah Abdul Hamid had misappropriated the sum under her purview as a public servant, local media reported.

Ex-spy chief's case dropped

The criminal breach of trust charge against former Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation chief Hasanah Abdul Hamid is the latest high profile case to be dropped.

The prosecution cited undisclosed “new development” and said she will be charged again later, on an undisclosed date.

Hasanah was accused of clearing out US$12 million illegally brought in through KLIA for the 2018 general election after it became apparent that BN had lost. She maintained that she was only following orders.

These are pittance amount lah. He knows how to cover back for his embezzlement. In fact, the 1MDB case was already in the process of covering back its losses via the arrangement with China on building the ECRL and the 2 oil pipelines to northern Malaysia. But unfortunately, Mamak Kutty came in too early and spoiled the show.

His idea of recovering the losses of 1mdb is by selling gomen owned properties to china.
This year alone, jiu hu will have to pay RM15 bil to 1mdb bond holders.

But jho low and/or najib walk away with the tens of billions. Justice must be seen to be served before confidence in governance can be reinstated. Currently, that is lacking.
Its like umno trying to hinder justice to protect their rice bowl, which is to plunder the coffers.
Just heard, the cost of maintaining the " istsna" is a horrific RM200k per day,

KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 — The Public Works Ministry today defended the reported RM5.19 million contract for the maintenance of Istana Negara as “reasonable”.

In a statement, the ministry said the facilities of the premises had always to be kept in a condition that was befitting of its status as a national symbol that represents the sovereignty, identity, culture and image of the country.

“The information that was published by [World of Buzz] refers to an ongoing contract of seven years that will end on June 30, 2022,” it said, referring to the website that first published the allegation.
The ministry went on to detail the scope of the contract in its statement.

It said, for example, that the maintenance work encompassed 241.3 acres, three main components that fulfilled different functions, and a gross floor area of 89,525 square metres.

All maintenance work carried out is guided by the Guidelines to Government Building Scheduled Maintenance (2008 version) as set out by the Public Works Ministry, it added.
The statement was issued to address the contents of an article published in content aggregator blog World of Buzz titled “M’sians Outraged to Find That Ministry of Works is Paying RM519 MILLION to Maintain Istana Negara”.
The article in turn referred to tweets by Malaysians who reportedly screenshotted the information on the company page of an investment holding company’s website

Wah Lou Eh, it has been like this eversince after the reign of Tunku Abdul Rahman, with the exception of Badawi. Mamak Kutty is no saint either and that was why he plotted to kick out Badawi.

In Malaysian politics, you cannot be not corrupted because you must share your gains with the other members within your party. Otherwise you will get dethroned easily within a short span of governance.
