This episode illustrates clearly who belongs to the Singaporean Core and who does not.
Despite living here for 17 years, he still can't see it. To me Singapore Core refers to those Chinese whose parents, grandparents who immigrated to Singapore with nothing on their backs to escape the wars and hardships in China to build a new life here without looking back or ever making reservations to go back, come what may. Also includes our Indian bros who came over then in those turbulent years to open up the tin mines and rubber plantations. The new arrivals are not Singaporean Core because they are here to enjoy the fruits, leech on our system while the going is good, have homes in their own countries to run back to at the first sign of trouble here, keep their children from doing NS, and are never really serious about fighting alongside us when the chips are down.

In today's ST forum, a foreign Indian national wrote that she came here for a good education (see the self-serving interest right at the start? Not to contribute), and even got govt grants to subsidise her schooling, then said that she had to serve a bond becus of this, and wondered how she is going to do it if we are so xenophobic and whether her decision was right in the first place to come here. Can you see from here - that she grouched about a bond, while having received subsidised education, and feels that she thinks that Singaporeans have to guarantee a nice environment for her to serve out her bond?

Fucking Indian leech! The cheek! Like we owe them a living! And our elite govt made all this possible!

The PAP government gives up tens of millions in scholarships to foreigners and dishes another hundreds of millions to scholars ....the ordinary sinkees have nothing.

One programme the government gives to foreigners is from first degree to Post graduate in top schools. The government is able to hide this from sinkee because it is categorized as a programme for sinkee. How? The foreigners are required to take up citizenship after the first degree. So, this scholarship holder becomes a sinkee and the scholarship is deemed to be given to sinkee.

Don't think China deliberately want to lose its citizens but since they have such a large population, it is not too great a problem for them.

Hi Bro,

You're right-on!

With more than 1.3 billion population, human resource exporting has become one of China's main export commodity.
It make political sense for them to saturate the world with these bumpkins.

Over the next 20 to 30 years, they will form enormous economic and political clouts in their host countries, much like
the Latinos in the US today which some claimed was the deciding factor in Obama's 2012 Presidential Election win!

You can tell there's by the name difference (seperate Teochew name vs China fixed Hanyu Pinyin) that there's a battle of Singaporean Core vs FTs.

My greatest worry is that even with all these opportunists like Li Yeming, Li Jiawei etc counted as part if the Singapore core, it is only 55 percent by 2030 according to the PAP plan. True blue Singaporeans will be very much lower than 55 percent. The country will be finished. Every new citizen added can lay claim to $250K of the reserves.

The ancestral roots of the majority of Core Singaporean Chinese (CSC) trace back to Southern China are the Hokkiens, Teochews, Cantonese, Hainanese, Hakka, Hockchew, Hockchia and Henghwa, with a small minority from the San Jiang district - Jiangxi, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. Over a century, the Chinese culture in Singapore is defined by the language and culture from these region.
Firstly, PAP destroys the dialect group identities with speak Mandarin campaign. The Speak Mandarin campaign succeeded in weakening the influences of the clans groups but failed to raise the standard of the Chinese language. Then the PAP govt brings in the PRC Chinese who are contemptuous towards the CSC for their command of the Chinese language and do not see the CSC as Chinese. Today, PRC Chinese have excelled in all Chinese-related fields and taken over areas which requires good command of the Chinese language. Eg Majority of the winners of Chinese essay writing competitions are PRC Chinese, Majority of the Chinese reporters in SPH are PRC Chinese.... CSC are being edged out. To make things worst, most CSC leaders in the Chinese clans and communities eg Li Yeming are hitting out at CSC. These CSC leaders welcome the PRC Chinese as new blood to rejuvenate the Chinese culture and usually harsh towards CSC when they express opposing views to govt policies. Do note that most of these CSC leaders are businessmen who benefit in reaping higher profits in their businesses with cheap foreign labour.

It will be 50-50 by 2030 or more likely 45-55. True blue sinkee will be the minority. It will be left to NSMen to decide what to do about the situation.
