LTA directors in cahoots with motor companies to rob PMET when they are down?
Yeah, LTA is in denial, recently, they even replied to straits times that the number of motorcycle (catD) temporary(T) COE(D) which expire are few. https://www.straitstimes.com/opinio...-temporary-coes-for-motorcycles-before-expiry
This is probably because LTA is discreetly hoping for higher COE (prices & revenues) whilst also fanning motorcycle demand by failing to provide a safe cycling experience to large number of PMETs who are now jobless and forced into food deliver business, which cannot possibly be done due to absurd LTA traffic laws which basically make riding bicycles of all forms unsafe on Singapore roads "Every bicycle shall be ridden close to the left hand edge of the roadway and in such a manner as not to obstruct vehicles moving at a faster speed." https://tinyurI.com/Roadcycle (full: https://sso.agc.gov.sg/SL-Rev/RTA1961-R3/Published?DocDate=19920325&ProvIds=pr8-)
Since this ridiculous LTA law strongly suggests that a motor vehicle can actually overtake a bicycle on the same left lane without filtering to the next lane. There is also no law ensuring the safety of cyclist which states a minimum of 2m in overtaking side clearence at all times.

It is thus no wonder that for many now jobless PMET reject the option of using either bicycle (electronic or ordinary) for purpose of food delivery work because the law is just too biased against bicycle use on Singapore roads; thus making the bicycle an unsafe option for food delivery use.

Unfortunately, either by commission or omission, LTA is now in cahoots with motorcycle distributors to drive cat D (motorcycle) COE up artificially, because motor companies which hoard these TCOEs, deliberately bid higher prices in hope to increase the COE price, so that having rigged the headline COE(D) prices, they have every opportunity to prey on newly jobless PMET with the arguement that motorcycle demand is so red hot that there is no choice but to accept the stratospheric motorcycle prices if one were to even contend for a food delivery job. With the sly use of LTA endorsed hysteria , these dealers who have hoarded excess temporary COE(D) are now laughing to the bank as their hoard has appreciated in value, with their $200 stake gambling, now worth many folds more.

Instead of remaining in denial of the plight of newly retrenched PMET, LTA should get down from their high horses and ivory towers and introduce 24/7 bicycle-bus lanes, both to improve the climate environment, mental and physical health of Singaporeans in general and also to keep food delivery folks safe (besides reducing open road space which only funnels more rain water to flood low lying areas, as well as making afternoons intolerably hot by having displaced trees, now absorbing and radiating the sun's heat instead). This should then reduce the urgency for the multitudes of newly retrenched from the mad dash to secure a motorcycle to start delivery work, when an e/ordinary bicycle would be more economical and healthy option overall with less overhead costs and vehicle maintenance burdens to bear.

In the meantime, to prevent motorcycle dealers from rigging the cat D COE bidding result and pushing prices higher, the deposit should be increased from $200 to at least half or more of the prior COE exercise qualifying amount ($4800 based on latest minimum winning bid of $9600), which would be forfeited if the temporary COE is not exercised by topping up to the full amount within 6 months. (Or in the alternative, TCOE(D) should have only 1month validity and like cars, motorcycle ownership cannot change hands within 6months except with payment of tax penalty).
This will make the motorcycle dealers think twice about hoarding TCOE(D) and then up bidding excessive prices for cat D COE to artificially inflate headline COE prices, just so they have the excuse to sell their existing TCOE(D) hoard for inflated prices to newly retrenched PMET desperate to take on food delivery jobs.
Yes, like the evil/ greedy motorcycle dealers, LTA directors probably also get plum bonuses after returning high COE sales revenues from the robbing/scamming of unsuspecting newly retrenched PMETs seeking food delivery jobs but this is anti thesis to the philosophy of the civil service.
God is always watching and whatever evil that those evil directors in LTA have perpetuated in acting in omission or commission to exploit the poor, they too will likewise ultimately suffer a similar fate likewise to come.

"But industry observers say some bidders still engage in price-propping practices, where they submit bids to drive up prices -sometimes with no intention of securing COEs-so that they are in a better position to offload COES in hand to other bike dealers if necessary.
Not dissimilar to what is known as shill bidding, this behaviour drives up prices artificially.
Over the years, calls have been made by several MPs to curb speculation in motorcycle COE bidding. Time and again, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) says there is no evidence of speculative behaviour...."
