Hidden treasure found under Nepalese palace

KATHMANDU - A HUGE stash of gold and silver ornaments has been discovered by workers renovating a former royal palace in the Nepalese capital Kathmandu, the government said on Tuesday.

The treasures, thought to be more than 500 years old, were hidden in a store room under the sprawling 16th-century Hanuman Dhoka palace, a Unesco world heritage site, a spokesman for the culture ministry said.

'There are coins and ornaments that look like offerings to the gods and goddesses,' he said.

It was not immediately clear how much the haul was worth but the spokesman estimated that there were around 300kg of treasure hidden in the store room.

The 4.5 million rupee (S$78,130) government restoration project at the dilapidated palace, which housed Nepal's royals until the late 19th century and is now a museum, began two months ago and will go on until September.

National Treasure : Yamashita's Gold

June 15th, A FD HG & SK Outing. To find the treasure of Yamashita's Gold. General Yamashita Tomoyuki (山下 奉文 Yamashita Tomoyuki?, 8 November 1885 - 23 February 1946) was a general of the Japanese Imperial Army during the World War II. He was most famous for conquering the British colonies of Malaya and Singapore, earning the nickname The Tiger of Malaya. According to popular legend, Japanese General Tomoyuki Yamashita looted the national treasures of South-east Asian countries which Japan conquered during the early stages of World War II. Yamashita's gold refers to the supposed billions of dollars in gold that were looted from East and Southeast Asia by Japan during World War II and left behind. Most people believe the reports of gold to be an urban legend, yet there are still many treasure hunters who believe in the stories and comb the countryside in search of the gold. However, some people speculate that the hidden treasure was buried in underneath the Syonan Jinja in Singapore. Back when Sir Stamford Raffles and our forefathers built Singapore, we believe that they have found the treasure, but they are unable to reveal it back to the East India Company, hence they came together, to devise a way to hide the treasure, placing clues around us. Clues from our Architecture, monuments even currency, It was hidden by our forefathers with clues to the treasure's location, some of them, right before our eyes. Artifacts built by our forefathers set clues and maps to unearthing the greatest treasure of Singapore. Some of WW2's secrets will be revealed, in the 21st century's greatest story never told. A plot synopsis adapted from National Treasure.

It's widely believed that the treasure was brought to Philippines and was found and looted by Marcos.

Well I did say some were found. There are still a large number of treasure hunters in Philippine searching for it.

I lived there for many years and met several of these treasure hunters. There was a Canadian, I would say about 60 years old who has been searching for it for some years. One Filipino I know well who was part of the group showed me photos of some places they dug and his experiences. Needless to say, they all did lose a lot of monies in these ventures. Some would call them foolish for dreaming of ever finding their pot of gold.
