SINGAPORE - A 26-year-old man who is believed to be responsible for a series of loanshark harassment, including one case that involved setting fire to a flat, has been apprehended.

Police believe that he was the culprit behind the attempted arson of a HDB unit at Serangoon North Ave 4 on Feb 14, 2013.

He is also believed to be involved in at least 10 cases of loanshark harassment which involved splashing paint at HDB units and scrawling loanshark graffiti on walls at various locations island-wide.

Police arrested the suspect along Chai Chee Lane on Feb 20 at around 2pm. Following the arrest, they also found fire accelerant, cans of paint, gloves, padlocks and bicycle locks at his residence.

The man will be charged in court on Friday for loanshark harassment. Under the Moneylenders Act, persons found guilty of committing loanshark harassment will punished with a jail term of up to 5 years, be fined up to $50,000, or be caned.
