LKY is the farking father of Singapore who screw us all .

If you don't like to speak Mandarin don't support .

Instead Singapore invested so much China . That; not learning Mandarin is not possible to have a stake there .

Don't just jump on the bandwagon just because
everyone is doing it .

why did you managed to pick up english then? strange...

Fuck LKY for abolishing dialects and forcing Putonghua into everybody's throats.

He first force english into everybody's throats. Initially people struggled for a while, after that they like it and can't live without it.

You will like putonghua too after choking on it for a while.

Why are Singaporeans bothered with " low " " more superior " . Instead of what matters most to them .

Like they always get their priorities wrong .

Singapore is right in the centre of the Malay Archipelago.

Malay is the National Language. But till now, money talks.

You guys want harmony?

English, the de-facto language of the world was the medium of communication in Ceylon until shortly after independence when Singalese was pushed in its place. Of course, the demographics are different. But you wanna bet on that?

Cheers!

I am more concern for economic implications
than just language .

The 2nd language policy is/was a distraction & a disaster. How many here struggled with mandarin in school:confused:

Think of all the time & effort people wasted trying to learn this language:eek:

More importantly how many really need mandarin? Many don't need to communicate with PRC chinese. How many times do you communicate with bus drivers, food handlers,...., that are working in Spore?

The language policy & other PAP policies have driven many Sporeans to find a new home in west. Sporeans are a diverse group: chinese, indians, malays, eurasians,.., how can you force all of them to learn mandarin? Now that we have filipinos, indonesians, indians, etc in Spore do you think they'll want to learn mandarin?

The Japanese have problem with dipthongs and single consonants without vowels. For example, the plural ending -s must be pronounced as su, s can't be pronounced alone. The hard ending t must be pronounced as to, t can't be pronounced alone. Class must be pronounced as kelasu, there's no such thing as cl or kl. The mother tongue and kindergarten drill of rigid Goju-on Kana fixed their tongues and ideas of pronunciation. Only Japanese who have spent some years abroad away from Japan managed to get pass this inherent inhibition. Many Thais and Chinese have the same problem. Malays and Indians have no such problem other than a matter of accent as their languages are quite phoenetically compatible.
