Lack of 3 corner fights, equals co-operation amongst Oppo parties?

I was just going thru the list of constituencies that each party has announced that it will fight for. It seems like there is not a lot of 3 cornered fights and hardly any conflicts in contested wards between the parties. It appears they might have had a meeting to carve up the areas that they will each attack. Can someone confirm what the 3 corner fights are is any? And is this a new level of co-operation among oppo parties?

I think the opposition has learned its lesson from 2011, if there's a 3 corner
fight Papaya will win very marginally like 1-2%!

One to one fight in single constituency Opposition stands better chances,
as peasant just fed up with the Papaya Pay And Pay policies!! The gahmen has
no feel of the ground! Just like comment on Card board collectors they are doing
exercise b'cos they are bored at home !! You believe it??? Ministers being
paid million they thou peasants as RICH as them! wtf!

The Papaya Policies are normally one sided towards the gahmen!!

Just look at the COE they are controlled by LTA the Pay And Pay gahmen
they are still hovering in the region of $60K and they claimed that COE has
come down just to appease the voters!! You mean to say SG motorist are so
fucking RICH want pay $60K for a useless toilet paper that say your car
can last 10 years

KARMA this coming Erection Papaya will be the Minority!!

SINGAPORE - The Workers' Party (WP) will contest Marine Parade GRC and MacPherson SMC, its secretary-general Low Thia Khiang said on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters at a walkabout in Punggol East, Mr Low said the party had been working the ground in Marine Parade group representation constituency (GRC) as well as Joo Chiat single-member constituency (SMC), which will be absorbed into Marine Parade GRC. MacPherson has been carved out of Marine Parade by the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee, whose report was released on Friday.

The WP's Yee Jenn Jong lost Joo Chiat to the PAP's Charles Chong by 388 votes in the 2011 general election.

Mr Low would not say where the WP will also contest, but it is likely to be in East Coast GRC and Fengshan SMC as well, and also Jalan Besar GRC.

Leaders and members of opposition parties were out on walkabouts across the island on Sunday morning, stepping up activity as the general election draws nearer.

WP members were out in both single seats held by the party.

Mr Low joined Punggol East SMC incumbent Lee Li Lian in her constituency to greet residents and sell copies of the party's newsletter, The Hammer.

Hougang SMC incumbent Png Eng Huat was in his constituency where he was joined by Non-Constituency MP Gerald Giam, who is likely to be part of the WP team in East Coast GRC.

The National Solidarity Party's (NSP) leaders were out in Tampines GRC, where a team from the party contested in 2011.

A team from the Singaporeans First Party was also on a walkabout in the constituency, where the new party has said it also hopes to contest.

The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), meanwhile, was on a walkabout in Bukit Batok, where a new SMC has been formed. The SDP says it wants to contest the seat. It is in the area where the party's former chair Ling How Doong once held the former Bukit Gombak seat from 1991 to 1997.

The NSP said it has invited the opposition parties to a meeting on Friday to discuss where they will contest. Such meetings have traditionally been held ahead of the election in a bid to challenge the ruling PAP in all seats and to avoid three-corner fights.

Several opposition members also hope that the nine parties can contest all 89 seats between them.

1. Workers Party

Secretary-General of the Workers’ Party (WP), Low Thia Khiang, announced that the WP will be contesting in all the electoral divisions that they had contested in the previous elections.

The 28 seats that the WP will contest consists of 5 Group Representation Constituencies (GRC) — Aljunied GRC, Jalan Besar GRC, Nee Soon GRC, Marine Parade GRC, and East Coast GRC — and 5 Single Member Constituencies (SMC) — Punggol East SMC, Hougang SMC, MacPherson SMC, Fengshan SMC, and Sengkang West SMC.

The WP will be defending 3 electoral divisions — Aljunied GRC, Punggol East SMC, and Hougang SMC.

2. Singapore Democratic Party

If the Workers’ Party are the opposition of the East, then the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) are the opposition of the West. SDP, led by Dr Chee Soon Juan, traditionally focuses their electoral campaign on the West side of the island.

Yesterday (26 July), Dr Chee had informed the media that the SDP will be setting their sights in contesting on the same areas as the party did in the previous GE — Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, Sembawang GRC, Bukit Panjang SMC, and Yuhua SMC — including the newly created Bukit Batok SMC.

3. Singapore People’s Party

The Singapore People’s Party (SPP) has confirmed they will definitely be contesting in the Mountbatten SMC as well as the Potong Pasir SMC.

The Potong Pasir SMC was the closest contested electoral division in the previous GE — Lina Chiam of the SPP was edged by PAP’s Sitoh Yih Pin by only 118 votes.

Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss from the SPP had also long announced her intention to stand for Mountbatten — even possessing a Facebook page called “Jeannette for Mountbatten“.

Apart from the two confirmed SMCs, SPP will also consider fielding candidates in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC and Hong Kah North SMC.

4. Reform Party

The Reform Party’ Secretary General, Kenneth Jeyaretnam, has confirmed with the media that the Reform Party (RP) will be looking to build on party walkabouts since the 2011 GE.

Mr Jeyaretnam also took a swipe at Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong by suggesting to the media that PM Lee was afraid of the election contest for the coming General Election.
The Reform Party will be contesting in West Coast GRC, Radin Mas SMC, and Ang Mo Kio GRC.

5. Singaporeans First Party

The newly created party is considering to contest for 2 GRCs. Founder Tan Jee Say previously contested at the Holland- Bukit Timah GRC in the previous General Election under the SDP banner.

Mr Tan told the media that he is looking to contest in Tampines GRC and Marine Parade GRC, but is open to further discussion with the other opposition parties as well.

We are interested in Tampines and Marine Parade, but now that Marine Parade has absorbed Joo Chiat, we will have to see what the Workers’ Party plans to do there as well

– SingFirst Secretary General, Tan Jee Say

6. Democratic Progressive Party

Secretary-General Benjamin Pwee told the media that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will remain committed to their plans to competing in the Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, setting the stage for a potential clash with the Singapore People’s Party.

Mr Pwee did not announced further plans.

7. People Power Party

Political veteran Goh Meng Seng had initially wanted to contest at Whampoa SMC, but it was absorbed into the Jalan Besar GRC.

Mr Goh has since tweaked his plans to contest in Bukit Batok SMC and Fengshan SMC instead.

8. Singapore Democratic Alliance

Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) Secretary-General, Desmond Lim, has confirmed that the SDA is looking to spar with Teo Chee Hean in Pasir Ris-Punggol.

The SDA will be competing for 6 seats in the Pasir Ris- Punggol ward.

This is it

The opposition parties of Singapore have more or less planned out their campaign, with almost every constituency being contested.

In fact, we expect every constituency to be contested in the coming General Elections for the first time ever. That’s right, even Lee Kuan Yew’s Tanjong Pagar GRC.

SINGAPORE: Veteran opposition figure Chiam See Tong has not been ruled out from contesting in the coming General Election (GE), with the Singapore People’s Party (SPP) saying that it has not decided whether to field its secretary-general.

Mr Chiam was Member of Parliament (MP) for Potong Pasir for 27 years until 2011, when he moved out of his constituency and led a team to contest Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC in the GE.

His team lost to the PAP incumbents, garnering 43.07 per cent of the votes.

On Monday (Jul 27), his wife and Non-Constituency MP Lina Chiam, who contested in Potong Pasir in 2011, was coy on whether Mr Chiam might run, given that “everything is fluid”.

“There could be changes here and there, so I would not like to comment at the moment,” said Mrs Chiam, the party’s chairman.

Mr Chiam, 80, has suffered two strokes in recent years, but he is still seen with his party on walkabouts, with a post on the SPP Facebook page showing him at a meet-and-greet at Mountbatten in June.
