Taxi driver investigated for making false police report

A 59-year-old taxi driver is being investigated for making a false police report. He claimed that he had been robbed along Portsdown Road on June 21.
He claimed that he had picked up two passengers along Jalan Bukit Merah, and while the taxi was along Portsdown Road, the passengers robbed him at knifepoint and made away with $310 in cash.
Upon further investigations and subsequent interviews, officers from Clementi Police Division established that the taxi driver had made a false report to cover up losing a coin box that had been a gift from his wife.
Investigations against him are still ongoing. If convicted, he could face up to one year of imprisonment, or fined up to $5000, or both.
Acting Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police S. Warrier has said that the Police "will not hesitate to take stern action on anyone who makes a false police report or otherwise provides false information to the Police."
