JTC to built Jurong Rock Cavern to start construction by year end

Construction of the Jurong Rock Cavern will finally begin by year end at a cost of some $890 million.

It's the first underground oil storage facility in Singapore and Southeast Asia,

Industrial landlord, JTC Corp, has awarded the first phase construction contract to Korean firm Hyundai Engineering and Construction.

The first two caverns will be completed by 2013.

There're five caverns planned.

Each storage gallery is large enough to contain water from more than 64 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

It will be able to hold close to 1.5 million cube metres of oil underground.

Very good idea. We can offer to storage of strategic reserves for countries around the world. This is long term storage - long term rental

1 cavern = 2 gallery. Each gallery =1.5M3 = 10M barrels of oil. So 1 cavern is 20M barrels of oil x 5 caverns = 100M barrels of oil. Enough oil to last Japan 2 months!

Great idea. I would not be surprised if many EU countries will rent some space.
