Jail term for road-rage man cut

By Selina Lum

A 47-YEAR-OLD man was driving his teenage daughter home from school when a van cut into his lane. When the two vehicles collided after some overtaking and lane-cutting on Bradell Road, manager Tan Eng Heong grabbed a wooden pole from his car. He then swung it at the van driver, Mr Chua Cheng Hai, 45, who blocked the attack with his left arm. The blow left Mr Chua with fractures to his forearm.

In April, after a trial, Tan was found guilty of causing grievous hurt to Mr Chua during the fracas on April 17 last year and sentenced to six months' jail.
He appealed against conviction and sentence. On Friday, the High Court upheld his conviction but slashed his jail term to one month. Justice Choo Han Teck, in reducing Tan's sentence, said he considered that there was some provocation from Mr Chua.
