If Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak is toppled, Israel will lose one of its very few friends in a hostile neighborhood and President Barack Obama will bear a large share of the blame, Israeli pundits said on Monday.

Political commentators expressed shock at how the United States as well as its major European allies appeared to be ready to dump a staunch strategic ally of three decades, simply to conform to the current ideology of political correctness.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told ministers of the Jewish state to make no comment on the political cliffhanger in Cairo, to avoid inflaming an already explosive situation. But Israel’s President Shimon Peres is not a minister.

“We always have had and still have great respect for President Mubarak,” he said on Monday. He then switched to the past tense. “I don’t say everything that he did was right, but he did one thing which all of us are thankful to him for: he kept the peace in the Middle East.”

I am equally shocked by this naive response. Being politicians themselves, they should know the rules of the game. No forever friends and No forever enemies. Reality changes from time to time due to influence from many volatile factors. When benefits that help build and sustain relationship between 2 countries wear out, "betrayal" sets in.

One side of US is close ally to Israel. But the other side is US idea of democracy and free speech.

Last 30 years they can wave that democracy flag but yet close one eye over dictators from Egypt to Saudi Arabia. Kuwait.

But now cannot close one eye because people on streets voicing opinion. So cannot close eye anymore. Israel on the other hand cannot maintain this hardline because it creates even more enemies.

Just look at Iran. Even with all the sanctions in the world, the country is going to build a nuclear bomb. When you have a large country with $ and smart people they can and will get a bomb. So instead of ostracizing Iran why not talk and deal with them. There is no choice.

Mankind started in the African continent; as stone age cave dwellers and then human migration started to the far ends of the world ie Europe, Asia etc. The African Stayers remained in the dark continent and STAGNATED!

While Europe and Asia (China) progressed rapidly, AFRICA continued in their primitive ways.

The Europeans became technologically superior in order to travel on ocean going ships to reach the shores of Africa and subdue and colonise the inferior, primitive spear welding ZULU warriors with superior weapons like gunpowder firearms.
