In a few hours I will be meeting a Singaporean and his family for the first time. He immgrated to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada about 2 years ago. He has terminal cancer.

I notice more and more Singaporeans who immigrated here last 5 years have cancer and even my eldest brother now has cancer......in our family genes no one had cancer.

Also there is an increase of "sudden death" by healthy N.S. boys during army runs.

Anything to do with the newater?
http://app.mfa.gov.sg/data/2006/press/water/SpeechPM.html
In his speech to launch the NEWater in Feb 21, 2003, then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong said PUB "will increase the amount progressively to 10 mgd by 2011, about 2.5% of our daily consumption then."

If you check lots of N.S. boys and school children are given bottles of newater to drink!

Are you drinking Singapore tap water? Are you sons in the reservist drining bottled newater given by the army?
Why are there sudden deaths of healthy combat fit N.S. boys and school children during training and excerise runs? WHY?

Check it out and spread the warning and make it an ELECTION issue!

"On a more scientific level, there are several very credible research reports and books that stress the more recent opinion that long term consumption of de-mineralized water can in fact be dangerous. Dr. Zolton Rona, author of The Joy of Health, states that "the longer one consumes distilled water, the more likely the development of mineral deficiencies and an acid state." Dr. Paavo Airola, cancer expert and author of "How to Get Well" and "Cancer... Causes, Prevention and Healing" also reports that "long term consumption of distilled water eventually results in multiple mineral deficiencies."

Two very negative things happen when we consume water that has been stripped of its natural minerals. First, because de-mineralized water contains more hydrogen it is an acid with a pH below seven. Any time we consume an acid substance our body will pull minerals from our teeth and bones to produce bicarbonate in order to neutralize the acid.

Second, it has been proven that when our body fluids become more acid than alkaline the production of free radicals increases, causing increased cancer risks. Many studies suggest that cancer cells can only grow in an acid environment. This theory seems to be supported by the fact that around the world the areas where people live the longest most disease free lives are the areas that have the most alkaline water, water with the highest mineral content.

Reverse Osmosis and Distillation were first developed over 40 years ago for the printing and photo processing industries, which require mineral free water. Because of the popularity and demand for home water treatment products many companies have marketed these products as "state-of-the-art" drinking water systems, which they simply are not. Often these products are marketed by using a demonstration that measures the TDS (total dissolved solids) and implies that this measurement shows the systems effectiveness at removing contaminants. TDS meters measure the dissolved minerals in water, primarily calcium and magnesium, and have little or nothing to do with contaminant levels. On a more scientific level, there are several very credible research reports and books that stress the more recent opinion that long term consumption of de-mineralized water can in fact be dangerous. If he had cancer, how did he passed medical check?? Is medical check up, no longer a necessity for immigration these day??

I just met him. When he applied for immigration he did not have any cancer. It was detected only after he arrived in Edmonton about a year later.

Could this be caused by Edmonton water. I suspect the NEWater more.

Go ahead to this test:
I wish you can get the SDP network and friends just to do a simple experiment to see the "danger" of the NEWater. Each person buy 3 gold fish and put them in three different types of water:
Sping Bottled water, rain water and Bottled NEWater. See how long the can survive in NEWater given the same amount of food and same size of containers.

Then use also 3 "drain fish" and even if this rugged fish dies in NEWater then it tells volume about the safety of the water.

One of the key issues is the presence of hormones in the water.
There are tests beind done right now to quantify this.
It might be a reason for the dramatic decline in birth rates with a TFR drop from 1.6 to 1.2 from 2000 to 2010

Newater is just another form of recycled water. The content itself had been deminiralised but it had been re-added to reservior water and water from the reservior had been re-treated at treatement works and minerals had been added in.

We are not drinking Newater at all from the tap.

MUIS has never answered that question.

I guess they are really trying hard to be less strict.

Halal is about meats. Nothing to do with fruits, vegetables or drinks. In fact, alcohol is also technically excluded from halal laws as in Qur'an. It was "outlawed" later by religious decree, not by Qur'an. You'll notice Muslims order coffee, tea, soft drinks, fruits etc. from Chinese stalls without blinking. Vegetarian foods, e.g. nonya pastries and western cakes that obviously have nothing to do with meat or meat oil too, but of course not religiously connotated vegetarian foods like specifically Buddhist or Hindu vegetarian meals.

I was watching this documentary about Spore & they showed how reclaimed land is made up of incinerated garbage. Has the authorities determined if the practise is healthy

When you conside that Sporeans are exposed to new water, land fills of garbag, the number of cars spewing pollution, cheap hawker food without veggies,...., I'm not suprised at the number of cancer cases

Singapore isn't reclaiming land for agriculture. There shouldn't be any health or safety concern as long as reclaimed lands are packed solid to sustain the buildings.

The utensils are the worse culprits. All the plastics for hot dishes and the dip-dip 2-second washing. The amount of residual stale oils, detergents and plastics one consumes at the hawkers are horrendous if chemically quantified.

.

If you burn some substances you may end up with more dangerous remnants.
Even if they don't grow anything on reclaimed land, people are exposed to it, breathing in the fine particles day-in day-out.

I haven't heard of other countries using burn't garbage to reclaim land or using new water. I'm not that confident that the PAP has considered the health & safety issues :(
