FAKE RELATIONSHIPS FAKE CERTIFICATES FAKE DEGREE
- Man tries to pass wife’s relatives off as his sons-
- False names put on their documents
- Pays for commerce ‘degree’ from Madras university

HE wanted to help his relative’s children live in Singapore.

So he lied that they were his children.

Mohamed Kassim Shanavas, 47, an Indian national who runs a foodstall in Punggol, even got fake birth certificates for the two of them.

One was his wife’s younger brother and the other was her nephew, according to court documents.

The two – Rahman Ahamad, 24, and Ahamad Jawahar Ali, 12 – even got new identities.

In their fake birth certificates, their names were stated as Shanavas Ahamad and Shanavas Jawahar Ali.

Based on their relationship with Mohamed Kassim, they were granted permanent residency in 2003.

Mr Rahman Ahamad (Shanavas Ahamad) even did his national service and is now a Singapore citizen.

But it turned out that this was not the only lie that Mohamed Kassim came up with.

GRADUATE CLAIM

He also claimed that he had graduated with a commerce degree from the University of Madras in Chennai.

He had paid an agent in India 5,000 rupees ($185) to buy the fake degree.

Yesterday, Mohamed Kassim pleaded guilty to one charge of making a false statement in his PR application form.

District Judge Aedit Abdullah agreed to his lawyer Mr N Kanagavijayan’s request to postpone the sentencing to next Monday.

Mr Ronnie Tan, prosecutor for the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), told the court that Mohamed Kassim came here in 1997 because he wanted to earn high wages.

But he had only 10 years of education, and so he decided to buy a fake degree from an agent known only as Idris.

With that, Mohamed Kassim was able to obtain an employment pass when he came here in 1997.

He is married to India-born Shanavas Vahithabanu, 45, a housewife. They have two children, a son, 22, and a daughter, 18.

In September 2003, he decided to apply for permanent residency for the whole family, including his fake children whom he was supporting.

He submitted an application form for an Entry Permit to the Permanent Resident Services Centre at ICA.

In the form, he falsely declared that his highest academic qualification was the commerce degree.

TWO ‘EXTRA’ CHILDREN

He also lied that his relative’s children were his own. He said he had four children.

All were granted PR status on 22 Dec 2003.

Mr Tan, the ICA prosecutor, said: ‘He knew these statements to be false as he never studied or graduated from the said university and he has only two children from his marriage.’

He said Mohamed Kassim’s lies were exposed after ICA received a tip-off and started investigations.

The Singapore consulate in Chennai checked with the University of Madras and confirmed with ICA that Mohamed Kassim’s degree certificate was not genuine.

He was arrested on 5 Sep this year.

Mohamed Kassim can be fined $4,000 or jailed a year.

Mr Kanagavijayan told The New Paper that Mr Rahman is now a Singapore citizen and helps out at Mohamed Kassim’s food stall.

Similarly, Mohamed Kassim’s son, now doing his NS, and his daughter, who is studying in a junior college, have also become citizens, the lawyer added.

All the EPCM MNCs are loaded with kee lengs with fake degrees, many of them came in through Employment pass and after 6 months they applied for PR and got it latest by their 12th month in SIngapore. Some of these FT kee lengs are MDs and directors of these MNCs. There are hundreds if not thousands of them...you think MOM is going to do anything about it? The joke is internal transfer within the company to a different country, the host country rejected most of these kee leng's application for transfer because their degrees are questionable..and off course some of these FT kee lengs got through our water tight system la....

Actually, its very difficult to define what is "real" and what is "fake" degrees, diplomas or certificates.

If the business is registered as a School and it issues certificates that are not accredited to any university, is that a fake certificate? The candidate did receive lessons and did attend invigilated examinations.

If we think that falls under "fake" certificates and degree, do you know how many reputable organizations are issuing these in Singapore? Some of them are recognized by Big industry players and even MOM.

It is very difficult to legally proof that the person's certificate or degree is a fake if he receives his education through a proper organization be it physical or virtual (internet) - Open Universities if I am not wrong does a lot of course work via the internet, so that is a fake? We dont know who is doing the course work, the student or someone else.

Now we have to down play the whole thing to talk about whether the degree is recognized or not? But who has got the say? Is there a body in Singapore that Governs this? The answer is NO, our own universities have barely 40 years of history so i dont think they are in the position to advice. In fact I have seen people with private school Diplomas (without accreditation) getting a green card from the USA...in that case, who is Singaporeans to judge whether the degree is recognize or not?

You asshole. Going by your logic, it is perfectly alright to import criminals as well since we already have criminals of our own. :oIo:

He was James Gomez's speechwriter in the last GE. He volunteered for YOG as part of the establisment, ate five-course buffet meals and claimed that the famishing lunchboxes and food poisoning are malicious exaggeration when even Straits Times published it. He claimed that the almost 4-fold overbudgeting is money well spent; we can't understand it because we weren't there to see for ourselves. He got a promotion and a free trip to China for his objective loyalty.

Now I know why LTK kicked him out of the meeting room in one of the most unexpectedly spectacular scenes ever seen in WP meetings after the last GE. LTK has good foresight and insight.

I don't know what kind of cock bullshit you are spewing. Difficult to get proof whether its a legit degree or not? Are u an imbecile?Every country has an national accreditation agency. For example the US Department of Education governs what accreditation agencies can do. All ICA has to do is either check the accreditation on these unis or contact the Indian MOE for a list of their approved and accredited unis. If the FT job applicant's uni is not on this list, he does not get a PR/Work visa etc. If his uni is on the list, its easy to check the yearbook or call the uni directly to see if there was such a student graduating from the uni with this particular degree. Why, ICA don't want to pay long distance phone bills?

Ang mo countries have a waiting period while they rigorously check the details on your application, no suka suka give out PRs and work permits like toilet paper. Luckily, work experience in Sinkieland is counted as equivalent work experience in ang mo countries but work experience in China and India not recognised. Hence, you see the connection why there is a great demand to work in Sinkieland?

This article raises many questions. Why is the ICA not checking on these people before they even set foot in S'pore? By the time u discover their fraud and bring them to court, and jail them, the cost is already astronomical.U tie up the prosecutor's time, the public pays for a PD if he cannot afford one, the judge has to waste his time hearing the case, and the taxpayers have to pay this asshole's board and lodging in Changi prison when he gets sentenced.

Why can't the process start with the Singapore embassy in Chennai confirming all this fuckers info first? Instead of involving them to do the investigation after the fact. And it appaears that the ICA has no system to uncover these type of fraud, as this faker was caught only after a tip off. What about the thousands of others that are still uncovered because they are no tip offs?

And what do they do with these chuldren of fake applicants. I say they should be send back to India whether they have done NS or not, and whether they want to or not.

Ah Neh caught with fake credentials is just 1 tiny isolated case, I'm more concerned about the hordes of "civil engineers" coming from mainland PRC. lest we forget, these jokers r largely contracted to build new MRT lines & other LTA projects.

many of them don't know english, can't speak english, sign on papers that r written in english.
