If you're concerned about water supply, jobs and regional security, Singapore is the last place on earth you would want to settle down in.(

I cannot deny these issues and concerns will continue to exist and it can happen to any country not just Singapore. If Singaporeans do not believe in their country's system (or propaganda) what other alternatives are they seeking?

Singapore isn't a real country. It has no hinterland, no natural resources and it has a very unstable system which is built around a personality rather than established institutions.

To make matters worse, Singapore is full of simmering racial tensions which will be unleashed in the not too distant future. The races in Singapore hate each other. The apparent harmonious co-existence is another illusion created by the govt. If you want some insight into what will happen to Singapore one day, just take a look at what happened to Yugoslavia not long after Tito kicked the bucket!

My advice to ethic Chinese Malaysians is that they should move North instead of South. While it takes a bit more effort to learn a new language, it is well worth it. Thailand may not have the fancy facade that Singapore has but it is built on a much stronger foundation. The Thais are proud of their nation and apart from the trouble in the south, live in relative harmony built around a shared culture and language. It also has a huge plus in that the monarchy commands huge respect and strong leadership in times of crisis. Singapore has no institution that can unite the country. In Singapore, no institution or figurehead is respected. The presidency is a joke, the PAP has lost touch with the people and the judiciary is a laughing stock of the whole world. It is the last place on earth when it comes to planning for a long term future.

If you care about your children, for goodness sake get them out of Singapore as quickly as you can.

Nobody is treated more badly than 18 year old male Singapore citizens. They are forced into slavery under the guise of "defending Singapore". The reality is that they are there to protect the elites of Singapore and help them with their propaganda.

National day is coming up. Guess who the slaves are.. the ones that do the real work for a pittance in order to put on a grand show to make the PAP look good.

Other than the elite class, who else enjoys the security and slave labour that they provide? Ans : The million or so foreigners that have invaded the country without a shot being fired. They take your jobs and fuck your women and plunder your wealth.

When they have earned enough, they head home to enjoy the spoils.

If you don't have any sons, count yourself very lucky. All my friends who have sons have all escaped from the clutches of the PAP by emigrating before their kids reach the age of 10.
Some people likes to take the red pill to get out of the system and while some people likes to take the blue pill to get back into the system.

It took me much efforts to get my 2 sons out of sg.
They're now proud citizens of thailand.
No $75k surety bonds needed, no NS for them. They get to enjoy the best of 2 worlds by holding dual citizenships till they reach 21yrs. By then, they will have to renounce 1 citizenship.

I'll leave it to them to decide their own future. But most likely, they will remain here in thailand since they like the easy lifestyle & job security in thailand. Thai govt protect their citizen rights. They don't worship white men like sg govt do.

I'm not kidding!! There are many jobs available here than in sg. The only critic is that your must be 'thai citizen' and speak english fluently. No cheap FT from chinese or India can apply for any of the below job. These jobs are reserve for the thai ONLY.

Just like Malaysia , Thailand got huge land banks and many beautiful islands. These citizens are proud of their country's heritage & what the mother nature given to them. What does sg offer ??? Man made Sentosa beaches ???

In life, we never 'paint' ourselves into a corner. If you are given many options , by all mean let it be. Nobody know what will happen to sg after Lee die. By cutting away your right to be a Malaysian, you are basically cutting away another exit way out for yourself.

Sg baiscally has to import everythings from neighbouring countries. Water , foods, fruits, and vegetables are cheap & plentiful in Malaysia and Thailand.
These are cheap because these countries have huge lands and nature resources. Sg has to maintain its strong currency policy in order to fight inflation. But ask yourself, for how long can it last ??? They're killing off all the SME business with the strong currency.

I just feel that if my son is Malaysian and I am Singaporean, then if I get a Singapore citizenship for him, which he is entitled, it would be impossible for him to revert back to Malaysian if he wanted to in the future.
But it is so easy to get Singapore citizenship now a days.
Simply, one can be bought (Spore) and one is impossible to get(Malaysian) if you have a choice what would you do?

For me I lost all respect for them when boi boi took over. Our leaders are nothing more than beaurcrats. They have no vision for the future, no view on improving the lives of the ordinary people only know how to examine 'global trends' and look at reports. :(

After more than a decade here, I finally decided it was time to drop my Malaysian passport for a Singaporean one. This coming Aug 9, I will truly celebrate my new status and cheer my heart out for Singapore at the Beijing Olympics.

By default I was a Malaysian because my parents came from China, settled in Malaysia and became her citizens. By the same token, I moved here and my children will become Singaporeans as a result of my decision. I believe there are many Malaysians here who are PRs, who have been working here for the longest time but yet to take up citizenship. In the past I was apprehensive about giving up my Malaysian citizenship, but after working and living here, I do find in my personal opinion, that Singapore is where I truly want to belong. I agree, no country is perfect and I'm curious as to why Malaysians here are still hesitating about taking up Singapore citizenship? Your input will be well appreciated.

The whole world isn't just Sg and Malaysia. Are you looking at the complete world map?

I think there is no turning back for him & his family since he has already submitted his SG citizenship for approval. Most likely, it will get lighting approval by SIRS.

SG Govt has been trying very hard to convince FT to take up SG citizenship every year . Each year, there are more S'poreons leaving SG than FT taking up SG citizenship. It the facts !!

If he back out now and withdraw his citizen application, he will also lose his SG PR in the end.

It pointless to discuss now, there is no turning back for him & his family.

Like James, i am someone who has gone the same route...and i know another good friend who did it, he is Thai whereas my roots are Malaysian.

I don't think it was necessary to debate it like in this thread...it is simply a choice of preferance.

Some Singaporeans may think other countries in SEA may be more viable or even better, good - i respect that. I choose to see the good here than what the rest has to offer.

To each his own...

James, what does SG citizensip offer beyond SG PR to you?

As a citizen, the only thing I know is voting rights (of which is limited), NS for your sons, and a change in colour for your IC.

So I guess, could it be your feeling of indebtness to this country? Did you feel that this country offered you the education and career opportunities which otherwise you would not have if you stayed in Malaysia? I have many M'sian friends who went through this route, but have not taken that citizenship because of the above reasons.

Frankly, there are ways to show your gratitude, which I'm sure you already have e.g. be law-abiding, pay your taxes, etc. You should have let your children decide who they want to be since you have this choice available. Why decide for them?

Anyway, if you already are joining the club... welcome .

Here are few reason I can thinks of why Malaysian Chinese change to Singaporean.
1.Cannot cope daily life money not enough( PR less benefit like education/conservancy charge/HDB discount...................). If they rich enough or money can cope with the life in Singapore they will not convert to Singaporean that is the main reason for most more than 90%.
2. No more family relative in Malaysia.
3. For some job need to be Singaporean like MPs.
4. Get use the Singapore lifestyle too long been here.
5. Business SME belong to Singaporean easier to get small contract from gov. this is truth.
6. Buying land in Singapore easier.
There are many more....................

Yeah but the Malaysian govt is a lot more honest. It tells you straight to your face that you are 2nd class citizens compared to the bumiputras.

The Singapore govt, on the other hand, comes up with all sorts of motherhood statements about how important citizens are and how they are accorded all sorts of privileges.

The reality is a lot different. Singaporeans are treated like dirt while foreigners are placed on a pedestal. Even the judiciary treats Foreigners better.. especially white foreigners.

I hate you Sam cos you tell the truth and I cant handle the truth..

Cheers
